Product Description

The Magewell Pro Capture DVI is a single-channel HD video capture card with a PCIe Gen2 x1 host interface. Its DVI-I input is natively compatible with DVI 1.0 and, via included breakout accessories, also supports HDMI 1.4a, VGA and component video; a 3.5mm analog audio line input is also provided. Maximum supported resolution is 2048x2160. The card features a 12-bit ADC on the VGA and component signal paths, with support for composite sync, separated sync, sync-on-green (SOG) and sync-on-luminance (SOY). Two full 10-bit video processing pipelines (~180Mpixels/s each) deliver hardware de-interlacing, cropping, scaling, aspect-ratio conversion, color-space conversion, frame-rate conversion and OSD overlay. Hardware timestamping and SG-DMA transfer ensure precise A/V synchronization and ultra-low latency. With automatic input-format detection, unlimited independent capture streams, and a low-profile short-card form factor, it is well suited for multi-source recording, live production, education, broadcast and monitoring.

What signal types does this card accept?

The primary input is DVI-I (compatible with DVI 1.0). The included DVI-I breakout cable also accepts HDMI 1.4a and component video, while the DVI2VGA connector adds VGA support. A 3.5mm Phone Jack provides an analog audio line input, so a single card covers a wide range of common source types.

What is the maximum frame rate at 1080p?

Capture frame rate reaches up to 144fps, but the actual rate is limited by PCIe bandwidth and the on-board processing pixel clock; at 1920x1080 it is approximately 80fps.

Are there any limitations when using a VGA signal?

The VGA path uses a 12-bit ADC and digitizes signals up to 165MHz pixel rate with 1:1 sampling. Signals above 165MHz can be digitized with horizontal sub-sampling, which results in some image quality loss and is not officially supported. Custom video timings and custom resolutions (CVT/GTF timings) are supported.

Can multiple cards run in one system?

Yes. The on-board 16-position rotary switch (0 to F) sets the card number, and the video/audio device names in the system tree and software include that number for easy identification — up to 16 cards can be installed at different switch positions.
